A BIT OF HISTORY
Jnoubi (“my South” in Arabic) is a project in the South of Lebanon that provides opportunities for young, marginalized Bedouin & Gypsy women to learn new skills, create beautiful jewelry, and have an honorable income for their families. 100% of the proceeds are given back to this project, generating income for these precious women as well as keeping the project self-sustainable.
May you wear your Jnoubi jewelry with great joy, knowing that lives are being transformed!
A project by Open Gates.
Jnoubi is more than just beautiful jewelry, it’s about growing and developing young women and teaching them a variety of skills. Of even greater value is the fact that they learn that they are precious, gifted and beautiful. These young women are discovering who they truly are!
Suzan is not only very talented, but also has the heart of a mother. While working as a team, she plays an important role to keep things together. She dreams of Jnoubi becoming a place where many more girls will have new opportunities in life and discover the hope they have. At Jnoubi, she has learned that nothing is impossible!
Sarah used to be part of Jnoubi, until she was sent to work on a flower farm. We miss her immensely. Sarah is calm and kind. During her time at Jnoubi she learned how to love and accept herself, and gained confidence. Since childhood she dreamt of making jewelry, and now dreams of coming back to the center. We hope to see her returning to the center in the near future.
Samira is one of those people who just have the eye for matching colors beautifully! She is very talented, with excellent jewelry-making skills. She also has a natural sense for design and therefore plays an important role in the design process of our products.
Samar is the shy one, but solid in her character. When she speaks, others listen. She is always faithful and reliable. Her dream is to finish her education and stand on her own feet. She would love to travel to experience the variety of life.
Samaher always brings joy to the center, making sure that there is enough fun and laughter. She often puts on a thick Bedouin accent, sometimes making up her own words or telling a joke. Joy bubbles up from within her. She has learned at Jnoubi that we need to make the most of today, and this will have an impact on tomorrow!
Najah is a great example of a young woman who has lots of resilience, who is daily making hard but wise decisions. This has caused her to overcome many obstacles. She loves music and is currently learning to play guitar. She even dreams of teaching others, too.
Inaam has a hunger for life! She is fearless and full of faith, knowing that she has a future. She has learned the power and beauty of forgiveness. The choice to forgive has beautifi ed her even more! She would love to be a photographer for Jnoubi.
Hanan is the youngest in the group yet she has a real eye for details! She sees a mistake a mile away and ensures it gets corrected. Hanan always has new designs & ideas. She is full of life and energy and would love to be trained in design.
